Everything Wrong With Sonic Unleashed

The problem with most reviewers is that they always, ALWAYS compare Sonic to his old games. Watch any review of Unleashed and somewhere in it will be a comparison to the good 2-D games of old. It's an old problem: how can you give a good review about a game that is part of a franchise/series without being biased towards other games in the franchise/series.

And for Sonic, no one has solved this yet. Or stopped bashing Sonic Team.

Watch a video, if you see a single Sonic Unleashed review without someone bashing Sonic Team, I'll give you some milk and cookies.Well, see. To me, doing something like that is a measure of pattern recognition, seeing the writing on the wall.

Now, I do like Sonic games, myself. I have the Sonic Plus PS2 game for my blue hedgehog needs, whatever THEY are. About the time they were no longer writing for Dreamcast (Yeah, I had one. So?), we pretty much pushed past the acceptable point for even understanding people. I looked at all the Sonic games following that era and said, 'That doesn't look as fun anymore.' .Reviewers do use an ounce of wisdom. Maybe more than an ounce if they're well-spoken.

Yahtzee's opinions are shared by others without them looking over his shoulder for a review idea. (Especially since he's in Australia where he has to wait a while.) People who do it for a living find Unleashed lacking.as do normal people. They released a bomb. And I think people who keep it real and make a quick laugh out of the whole deal are the best reviewers on the planet. (That's a kudo for Yahtzee and a kudo for one Super Psyguy.). The problem with most reviewers is that they always, ALWAYS compare Sonic to his old games.

Or stopped bashing Sonic Team. Watch a video, if you see a single Sonic Unleashed review without someone bashing Sonic Team, I'll give you some milk and cookies. The high speed level parts were what were good about the game. Can you honestly tell me that you enjoyed werehog? The problem with most reviewers is that they always, ALWAYS compare Sonic to his old games. Can you honestly tell me that you enjoyed werehog?I can, I honestly enjoyed the Werehog stages, there was nothing WRONG with them, the combat wasn't broken like Shadow the Hedgehogs Gunplay, maybe if the game had been all like that or all running people wouldn't get there panties in a bunch.what was wrong with the gameplay, what glaring design flaw made it almost unplayable compared to gems like God of War using the same system and getting praised.Thats right nothing, in fact Yahtzee was right, they pretty much were GoW with Sonic. He even has the stretching arms to compensate for the Athena Blades!had the game been anything else, it wouldn't be getting this crap. But no, since the name is sonic it automatically loses 500 points.it's a competent game.

Everything

But no, since the name is sonic it automatically loses 500 points.it's a competent game. The combat was repetitive and monotonous, not to mention quite easy. Most deaths inflicted upon werehog were caused by falling off the stage. And even if you believe that the combat aspect of the gameplay was good, yes it does lose points for being a sonic game really. The werehog idea is just so arbitrary and maybe sonic team had that gameplay mechanic idea all along, in that case they were so afraid it won't work that they slapped sonic on in hopes that it would sell. But it didn't really, it just tarnished the already dying game even more.

They should've just made an entirely separate game for that if that was the case. The werehog section just did not mix well with the high speed parts at all. And even if you thought both were great, you don't mix something like say roast pork and like say. A bar of snickers (terrible example, i couldn't think of anything else). The two are just too different and aren't compatible at all.Chip was a terrible character, and I KNOW that you couldn't have liked him, my 6 year old cousin hated him with a passion. I found drawings depicting Chip's death in his coloring book. The characterization has gotten worse, every time they bring in a new character I just know I'm going to wish this was a Grand Theft Auto game and just shoot em to death.I love Sonic, I really do.

But the game is terminally ill with cancer at the moment, and making it get up and trying to attach new limbs it don't need does not help at all. It seems to me that Sonic team wish to be innovative, but in that case they should leave sonic alone. I mean the new game with sword.

I want Sonic to be successful, and I know he ain't dead, if the fat plumber can last then our beloved blue hedgehog can as well. But at least the plumber when he fails at making a new game, he goes back to what makes him great with new improvements and without fucking it up by adding some new twist which deviates so much they should really just slap on any random face and it might work a bit better. The high speed parts were really good, but there was so much excessive baggage like the exploration parts and medal collecting. Everytime Sonic Team makes an improvement and take a step towards the line which certifies them as a good game, they instead decide to just take a giant dump and smear the soles of their shoes with it.

Sonic team needs to wake up and stop slapping the dick around and seriously either stick with what made them great or make a new game and leave sonic's face off it. I mean a blue hedgehog isn't exactly a tough character to topple is it? The problem with most reviewers is that they always, ALWAYS compare Sonic to his old games. Do I think they interrupted the flow? Do I think the game is anything but competent?

I liked it, I had fun, but it was in no way anything more than competent. As for 'Chip'. I never really payed attention, seriously I was playing Phoenix Wright every time a useless cut scene would pop up.I know the bias and it's an unfair one, a new game with different characters would have gotten away less scathed, but when the name 'Sonic' is on it it's like you Auto-Subtract from the game.so while i'm not disagreeing with you, I am saying that yes, I had fun. Wasn't the worlds greatest game or Sonic Teams saving grace (Please just stick to the Rush games, those I can wholeheartedly say are awesome.) but it's NOWHERE NEAR AS BAD as 06, or Shadow. Competent but not anything more. The problem with most reviewers is that they always, ALWAYS compare Sonic to his old games.

An lucky you for not seeing chip. Really you had closed yourself off and failed to witness the horror of video gaming. It's like staring into Satan's eyes, you are so horrified and mesmerized you don't notice that he stuck his dick down your throat.I sat through thismultiple times and thisso I don't think it could be worse. I think it's probably the best 3D Sonic game since SA2. Make of that statement what you will.In all fairness, it's not an absolute trainwreck - it's an average game, nothing more.

It's just that for some reason, expectations are always high for a Sonic game. For the life of me I can't explain why - Sonic Team have failed us so many times now it's impossible to count. With this one, they definitely took a step in the right direction (the Sonic levels) only to bring it right back down with a useless gimmick (Werehog). I've said it before and I'll say it again - if they made short, WiiWare style games that were just like the Sonic levels, they'd be making tons of cash. Most importantly, it depends on which version you're playing. The WiiS2 version is by far the better version - you may get more Werehog levels, but they're better designed and the controls are much more refined, making them at worst a chore, at best mildly entertaining. You also don't have a hub to wander around, just a bunch of menus you have to make your way though. Irritating, but bearable, compared to the absolute mess the the PS360 version players have to deal with.

And then there are the Sonic levels. Ah.The Sonic levels are fast, glitch-free and fun. The 3D-to-2D transitions are almost seamless and at times it really does feel like the old Sonic.

On the WiiS2 version, they were designed by the same guys who made the DS Sonic Rush games, and it shows - they're really good. Except Eggmanland. That one's mean.

And most of all, with a little practice, it's actually possible to get those S ranks! Woo!The Werehog levels. Well, they're slugathons. Go through a little platforming, fight. Go through a little jumping, fight.

Go forward a little, fight. The combat is functional, but dull. It gets old, and quickly.

And I don't think I've encountered anyone who actually liked the enemy designs in these levels. What were they thinking? In short,. It pretty much sums up my views on the game. Fun, but flawed. I think it's probably the best 3D Sonic game since SA2. Make of that statement what you will.In all fairness, it's not an absolute trainwreck - it's an average game, nothing more. What were they thinking? In short,. It pretty much sums up my views on the game. Fun, but flawed. You have the same thoughts as me.Although the only problem I have with the Wii version is that there are less levels. I haven't even played it and I don't even need to play it to find out that it's bad. Sonic has gone downhill over the past years - such a shame, it was so fun to play before Heroes, Adventure was great because of the way the characters stories connected and linked, then there was adventure 2 with its awesome chao garden =D me and my friend spent so long playing with that when we were younger.

But Heroes was just plain boring in my opinion, the flow was commonly broken and there was like 4 new characters with no proper introductions - the series has gone and cannot be saved. May I rephrase the topic question? Is Sonic: Unleashed worth its money? Literally, the price the title's going for right now, is it worth it? Or is it one of those 'meh, it's not terrible, but wait until it's down to 20 bucks' kind of game?On another note, I have issues even with the 2D Sonic titles on handheld consoles for one reason only: too.much.speed.

Call me an old timer, but I miss the times when I had to slow down and break walls to reach those all-too-valuable tv powerups.I payed around 79 AUS for it, how much is it over there? I think it's worth around $50 maybe $45.Decent title but I wasn't going to spend what I payed for SRWZ (110 AUS) for it.the only straight forward sonic games are the ones on the nintendo DS and PSP for the sake that both ports focus on basic sonic 2-D generics with previous gen graphics and some depth.

Everything Wrong With Sonic Unleashed Video

I'm not surprised that this game got bad reviews. I'm not surprised this game isn't as horrible as everyone says.(in synopsis; sonic parts good, were-sonic; not good, characters;suicide notes)I'm just surprised sonic team still isn't.listening.well if it's to be believed it's because everyone still buys there games, how else can everyone criticize them.Unless there not actually playing and are just saying it sucks. (i dunno for cool points). I payed around 79 AUS for it, how much is it over there? I think it's worth around $50 maybe $45.Decent title but I wasn't going to spend what I payed for SRWZ (110 AUS) for it.It's priced at 70 Euros (some 60 USD) for the PS3/XBOX, at 40 for the PS2. Which is probably an issue with most titles that get bashed; they cost way too much to spend on if they're not truly worth it. I guess it's a pass, until I find it as bargain in x months.Definitely hold out on it.

I only payed that much cause it's fucking Australia and god knows they will RAISE the price just to fuck with me.
